was at kallang again last night, visiting some relatives who live at tanjong rhu, we took a stroll which turned into a run to the other side of the river, as the rain began to come down. rain had stopped after dinner, and we went to the bazaar at stadium cove. a week ago i was there enjoying the silence and darkness, tonight it was the hustle-bustle that made me excited. huge screens were set up under white tents and spain and ireland are going at each other. when you're watching football with a lot of people on a giant screen your emotions can be really roused, not even when everyone shouts "GOAL!" but simply from the the tingling murmuring excitement all around you. one young boy was running around with a sparkler (how i love those! i wonder where i can get a box) stadium cove's pasar malam is filled with lovely things: peranakan beaded slippers, woven shawls and silk scarves, keepsake boxes, embroidered handbags, wooden dishes, windchimes, and i fell in love with the man selling ice-cream. at 9.40 the arts feste crowd begins to swarm out of kallang from seeing le jardin io io ito ito. i'm seeing it tonight with von. i want to put my hair up because it's hot and i'll have to take the bus, but it's the wrong length to braid and pin. loose twists at the nape are easy but too hot for me. i don't have any of those long hair grips to do a french twist with (anyway mine are all lop-sided disasters), anything else i don't know how to do. how now (brown cow)?
