everytime i go into the kitchen for a late night snack i half expect to see a lizard scurrying out of sight, but there never are any. do you know, i've never seen a lizard in the us before. they're not native to north america, are they? i mean a common wall lizard of the sort you find in singapore houses, not a large komodo dragon or iguana. kikuchi tells a story of how, when he first arrived in singapore in the 70s, he had lain back in his bunk in the ymca and had a fright when he saw lizards running about overhead, there being no lizards in japan, and worried that one might fall on him. later another student in the hostel told him they were lizards and quite common on the island. i do miss lizards.
