came upon natalie babbitt's devil's storybook and the devil's other story book in the cambridge public library, which i supposed at first was a kind of screwtape for children, and, although it wasn't quite, but because the touch was light, i forgave some of its predictability, until i came on one story - the rose and the minor demon, which i like very much, and then another about the clergyman and the imp. the kind you didn't read fables into becaues you were too lazy to, but could, if you wanted to. and a little sad, of course, and a little wistful, which is all very nice.
