*pleased* i have now got the marjorie dundas book on riddling tales around the world. i've just been looking at the books in my room and wondering when they were due and wishing i were a grad student and can keep books for the semester. i certainly don't want to return any of them till i turn in the thesis next april, and i am not the sort of person who can remember to renew them every 4 weeks. now i've one of them to keep! and i can write in it! i transferred all my post-its from the library copy to the new copy. should i say my own copy. it feels good to say it!

i told yeenteck that i would have known him for 9 years by the rapidly approaching end of the year. he told me to shush, for that is a very long time and we're frightfully ancient. but then again, all in all, 22 has got to be better than being 14. i point out to von i've known him for 6 years and did he feel that is a long time, but von says it is mere piffle compared to how long he's known alex yao (since they were 2 year olds) and probably doing something embarrassing too, like wading in the same baby pool.) i have known most of my girl friends since sec 1, so 10 years, and caijing is probably my oldest friend, for 14 years already. addy and su-lin have known each other since they were in preschool. i was thinking of this because prof nohrnberg is off to attend a wedding of his daughter's best friend, a girl she'd known since she was two. i didn't have any dinner. at that time i wasn't hungry and it was too cold to go out, but now that it's 9 i am again and it's colder to go out and there's nothing to be had! eek. i'm trying to throw a few things in a bag so i can go to dc tomorrow. dun really need anything, to be honest. i can go up in whatever i went to class in in the morning, so just a nightdress and one change of clothing for the next day to come back in. i can leave my greek and latin for sunday if i'm back here saturday night. although i'd have to write my french essay and do the movie review too. hm. better not leave it all till sunday. oh but i don't think i want to read latin on the bus, and greek i need commentary, glossary, dictionary, grammar book, and 2 other translations for comparison before i can get anything done. definitely need a big table and coloured pens for that sort of thing. i have to read much ado about nothing, and i don't mind doing that, but i don't have it in a standalone copy, and i don't want to haul a complete shakespeare onto the bus. ah well. i shall bring only thesis books then. it would be good to get some reading done :) and maybe i'll bring one of the laura ingalls wilders for some fun reading. i dunno which. little town is probably my favourite, or maybe happy golden years is. maybe that's just for the love interest though. farmer boy is good but i'd rather read about her than him. big woods and prairie i never really was into. silver lake always makes me cry so no, not this weekend. long winter or plum creek. i'll think about that tomorrow. and of course i'll bring the knox brothers with me to finish. if i can find room. i have an ugly black and green raflles bag somewhere but i can't seem to find it. for an overnight trip you wouldn't think i need more than a backpack, but i always need a choice of books and that takes all the space...

and it *is* cohen the barbarian i wanted last night. *glower* the idiot boy said there's a real conan the barbarian on whom cohen (the pratchett creation) the barbarian is based. but of course, i didn't know there was a conan, and i was thinking of the pratchett to begin with. proofreaders should reference their corrections! he also pointed out i spelled developed as developped but i decided to make an apology here and leave the last as is. i am sure i've got my dates wrong becos somehow tomorrow is the 26th but somehow if i continued according to the index today would be the 26th. i don't want to go back and sort it out so i shall freeze time at the 25th and keep writing 25th entries till it's the 26th. so there.
