egg thoughts and other minzhi songs

curse these fridges once you put an egg in you can forget about ever eating that egg again unless it's a solid not-cooked egg you wish to have. i was afraid that that would happen and i took the egg out for ages beforehand because of that. and the water was gurgling noisily when i cracked the egg and i swirled diligently with a chopstick coaxing a beautiful vortex in the centre of the pot but would the egg go along with it? no, it just bobbed slimily on the surface. bah!

su-lin says the trick about making chawanmushi with the microwave is that you must use a ring-shaped bowl, or if you're kiamsiap like i am, put a jam jar in the centre of your bowl. however, i've stopped doing that and started using the ricecooker to make it instead. much slower, but the results are perfect.
