the really magnificent thing about being here is that harvard has first editions of nearly every single milton work in existence - i got to read the 1637 comus in houghton the other day! cp i am sure appreciates the significance of that edition! and you'd never believe what prynne's histrio-mastix looked like and what a difference that makes to your reading experience! (i'm afraid that's the only image i could find - the layout of the actual text is stupefying and i wonder i haven't gone blind.) what a very angry man that william prynne is. i want to be angry like that!
