i suddenly got into my head that i wanted to know how many books on the generals list we've already read, collectively. so i've updated the list with a key.

it's a partial list of course, because i don't know what everyone has read, so i only marked the ones i am fairly sure they've read. send me a complete list or correct me and i'll make the necessary additions and changes!

note: "read" means the entire work, not selections. so, for example, it has to be the entire canterbury tales.

for poems: familiarity with the oeuvre of a poet on a whole, though knowledge of individual poems assumed to be selective. having taken a class in a single poet counts. basically looking for reading of substantial portion of oeuvre, sufficient knowledge for general academic discourse. similarly for short stories.

medieval portion may be read in modern translation, although middle english texts in original preferred.
