i really should eat more at harkness commons. i've forgotten how much i liked it from the once or twice i've breakfasted there last semester. it is the law school cafeteria, less than five minutes away from where i live, much closer than my own dining hall in the yard. i love that it offers circular, semi-enclosed booths with high cushioned walls as well as long tables by wide glass ribbon windows that afford a clear view of sunlight falling on the snow-covered quad. i love that there is no risk of running into any gsas people there, or any one i might know at all, so i can read without fear of interruption. seeing law students at their breakfast meetings infect me with a feeling of sympathetic industry without me actually having to do anything about it. and as i'm always hungry in the mornings, instead of waiting for dudley to open for lunch, i could easily go to harkness for breakfast, read for half an hour or so, and still come home with two hours before i have to get ready for my first class. and of course i love that they have waffles and eggs and bacon and everything i've come to associate with american college dining halls. i feel just like i were in uva again.
