accomplishments of the evening: von and i have found the only place in the square where you can get chicken and dried scallop chok which is fairly authentic and of the consistency somewhere between the genuine cantonese article and teochew porridge. it goes by the name of rice chowder, but it is really chok, right down to the scallions and the smell of cang dao yew.

also we more or less managed to get through mango and sticky rice at spice while avoiding being spotted and patronised by a noisy singaporean contingent three tables away.

and then von had to show off his workspace in the carr foundation building at 2 arrow street, and i got to criticise his thesis.
