woke up in the middle of the night hungry enough to get up and look in the kitchen to see what i had around that could be turned into a meal. there wasn't much to go on; after i had scrutinised the contents of the cupboard and the fridge (with an intense scrute) the only option was to roll maki. (white fungus soup was of course a possibility, but that would take too long to prepare.) there was some left over rice in the fridge so all i had to was to reheat it and mix in the vinegar. i always keep a ready stock of seaweed sheets in the kitchen, and found a lone cucumber. no soy sauce anywhere, but there was pickled ginger in the fridge and i dug up a decidedly old tube of wasabe. so i got down to business and rolled myself four very lobsided rolls. i need cookbooks.
