i got two new kebayas from far east square yesterday! one is lilac, and the other a really eye-catching orange which the other shoppers came over to admire when i came out of the dressing room. both are made from linen, so not anywhere as sheer as the traditional kind, and have only very simple embroidery, and are casual enough for daily wear paired with jeans or a skirt. my mother thought i could even wear them unpinned as light jackets over tees or camisoles in the early fall.

i do love the nonya kebaya. if you've not seen one, (or even if you have, come on, girls, who can resist looking at pictures of pretty clothes?) this is a gorgeous 26-photo slide show of the vintage kebayas exhibited at the singapore asian civilisations museum in may this year. i missed the exhibition but addy went to view it and got me a notebook with a kebaya design, heh, that girl knows me!
