some of the third floor sporeans came up to use our kitchen because the lounges downstairs were being used for a hall function, and i was in there trying to put dinner together and got talking to kenneth goh. he was quite a few years ahead of us in school and i only know him for the reason everyone else does - he's the school swimmer. always thought he was a bit aloof but really he is very nice and for a singapore-trained scientist is surprisingly very interested in humanities education. we also talked a little about how he, having been defined for so long by others as "the swimmer," has experienced identity crises at each stage of his life when he was no longer "the swimmer" - and needing to go back to swimming to reaffirm himself, and how he no longer needs that today. i like that about him - his easy frankness, and languidness, and quiet interest. shall look out for him in dudley from now on.
