went to dinner with the oxford book of modern fairy tales (ed. alison lurie) and was startled when it fell open at philip k. dick's "king of the elves." i shouldn't call it a fairy tale? although i'd quite forgotten he had written this. i remember liking it more the first time i'd read it, but this time it seemed in parts a tad shoddily-written (well that's always the trouble with philip k. dick, innit? he's dead clever, and i admire him tremendously, but i wish he could have written more elegantly.) still, this is an excellent collection of tales, and heartily recommended to one and all.
