A Knoppers is a German wafer sandwich that resembles a Hanuta in size and packaging and which, like a Hanuta, also has a layer of nutella with embedded crushed hazelnuts. In addition it has layers of nougat-creme and chocolate-coated wafers. I wish the cream to nutella ratio would be adjusted (a thicker layer of nutella, lots of crunch, and just a tiny smudge of cream) but it is quite tasty if a little on the sweet side. We are having trouble shutting our pantry cupboard doors on an avalanche of Knoppers, as is the case every 8 weeks or so. If I have not said, my cleaning lady cleans also for an importer/distributor of German chocolates, and is in the habit of bringing us huge bags and boxes of gift chocolates and sweets close to their sell-by date. (Storck: which producse Moser-Roth (very tasty truffles, pralines and bar chocolates), Werther's Toffees, Bendicks Mints, and Merci, to name but a few brands.)
