i was so disappointed with the powerbook when it came out that i felt i was, perhaps, outgrowing winterson, and i hadn't paid attention since if she had a new book out. but this afternoon, reading reviews on guardian books, i saw her newest, lighthouse keeping, described as "a flawed return to form: a slim but lovely winterson classic that briefly unravels, shoots into the ether, and then remembers, just in time, what it's all about..." and suddenly i am remembering how much i had liked her - and still do, afterall. and thinking too, how long it's been since i'd reread any of her books, and only just three or four years back we were voracious fans. like all of winterson lighthouse sounds fascinating and powerful and mythic. it isn't in the nlb yet could we maybe do what we did with well of lost plots and get it out of sunny?
