my youngest aunt, on my mother's side this time, doesn't give decadent german-themed dinners, because my mother's family is chinese-ed and don't go in for angmoh eating. she only gives you singaporean food fit for the most hardcore of s'porean eaters - home-made roast pork so crispy it nearly dissolves in the mouth, ngohiang, chicken and pork satay, fatly-filled packets of samosa, prawn fried in batter, chicken wings, at least 60 sticks of otak, grilled squid stuffed with meat, curry, home-made rojak with sesame instead of peanut in the sauce, bakuteh, asparagus and donggu, herbal chicken cooked with enough herbs to lengthen your life by quite a few times. what i would do without aunts is unthinkable.
