i resent gyles brandreth, quite unfairly, i admit, because of course i miss derek nimmo badly, but in 1983 the nimmo pretender said one or two things that were tolerably amusing such as:

"remember that great and good man noah, who managed to float a limited company when the rest of the world was going into liquidation."

and

i grew up with such legalistic phrases as "in loco parentis," which means "my father is an engine driver."

not enough to forgive him for not being derek nimmo, but enough to not dislike him so much.
