it's sad when you come to think of it. theme parks and gardens and zoos are in the west. museums and civic district, historical and cultural buildings in the south. good river and sea views down the southeast, ethnic/cultural districts in the south-central. reservoirs and nature reserves in the central-northwest. boardwalks and beaches and good food in the east. the northeast doesn't have anything except

1) teochews
2) catholics
3) opposition parties
4) a well-known mental health institute.

this rather reminds me of the time von and i went out with a friend of mine. von declared he was a pure teochew, unlike me. at which point, my friend, who lives near me and happened also to be a pure teochew, retorted: "then how come you don't live in hougang?" teehee.
