this was potentially one of those very bad days but i haven't been in such a pleasant mood on a wednesday for a long time! that certainly wasn't the way i felt this morning. i'd been up till 4 getting through ovid, and was the unhappiest person when i opened my eyes at 7. 15mins more, i said and rolled over, and then two hours had gone by and i found myself dangerously late for my 9 o'clock xenophon on a test day, for which test i hadn't revised.i was struggling out of my skirt (having gone to sleep in all my clothes last night) and forgot that it tied up in complicated ways at the back, so fighting it off vehemently when suddenly there came the sound of a tearing as the skirt ripped its seams down the centre. with much misgiving i abandon the rescue of my skirt then, and rummage for something warm to wear but am reminded not for the first time that anything warm i own is languishing in a suitcase in the jensen basement. i find that the miniscule red patch on my knee has, during the night, exploded into a fully satisfactory but extremely painful purple splotch.i dive into class late with the sound of tut-tutting behind my back and grabbed a test and couldn't recognise half the words in the passage. and after i turned it in, i had to face the problem of having prepared the first and last 3 lines as i was dropping off last night, and nothing in between. for an agonising 20mins i first try to catch his eye in a rare attempt to be called on, and then, as we moved into unknown territory, avoiding his eye so that i wouldn't have to say, er, i didn't get that far. (in anycase, that never works for line 6.) i surreptiously consult the vocab and try to sightread at top speed to stay ahead. but it didn't seem like there was any avoiding it he had called on almost everyone else in the room, and we were only 2/3 of the way through - and then the hour was up, and i was saved by the bell, so to speak. and then after that suddenly everything was sunny. we get friday off for latin, and i've done all my readings for tomorrow's classes, so until friday morning there is no immediate work for the doing till friday morning, and i actually can have the afternoon off. that is so rare in a semester of 3 languages that i'm tremendously pleased. i did my laundry and cleaned parts of my room (you don't think a small room needs much cleaning, but it's impossible to move around here with all this junk) and do all those things tt are long overdue in the doing like ironing, and possibly go out for a long dinner. then the new comforter cover came, so purple flowers are the scheme of things around here. then i checked the asian games results and aha! joscelyn yeo won the bronze in the 100m butterfly! the straits times ran a lukewarm report yesterday on her loss yesterday and saying that she didn't have much of a chance today but there you go! singapore's first medal in the asian games! so anyway waiting for christine to call so we can go to dinner tonight and happily reading fairy tales.
