well my darlings, i am off. i'm going to an exam and then i'm going to the department to get some paperwork sorted out and then i'm off to catch my flight to new york (and then frankfurt and singapore.) i can be called in new york up to monday, 7pm, eastern time, and in singapore from wednesday after 10am singapore time. that's the 25th. this will be in about 40 hours' time. you can't say i haven't left you a gazillion posts to read, and lots of suggestions of radio programmes to listen to, and paintings to look at, and transcripts to read.

add: 4.30 pm. nope, still here in boston. as with last year, there is snow and a great many cancelled and delayed flights, and there's nothing to do but wait. at least logan has wireless access, although i think i'll post this and get some sleep. someday my plane will leave....
