notes from home

1.
ariel is to be a firefly this year in his kindergarten graduation concert. i notice he is always something with a light.

2.
a few days after they had read a book about mozart's life my cousin winnie heard prolonged and unmusical howling from upstairs. perhaps the children were playing at red indians. what it was, in fact, was sarah, playing at being an opera singer. she had put on her plastic pearl necklace, draped sheets around her for a long gown, and lined up all her soft toys in rows for an audience.

2a.
cousin-in-law: what is that terrible wailing? it must be cats again.
cousin: i think that's our son singing.

(i was utterly tickled when the two opera stories wwere retailed to me. when i get a chance i must take them to a real opera.)
