he's in doctor at large every sunday (as a wonderfully crooked steward) and as bunter every weekday in the unpleasantness at the bellona club -

the incomparable peter jones is all over the radio again!

i just can't help being excited when i recognise his voice, and then the pleasure of having it confirmed at the end of a program when his name is announced - i'm still discovering the vast amount of work he did on radio - especially when i come on an episode in which he is only guest starring. i wish they'd bring back brothers in law so i can record that episode where he plays the curious little shopkeeper who is outrageously bad at driving and scatters pedestrians in every direction as he approaches the lights.

(but with a supporting cast list like this (go on, see how many of those names make you go ooh,) brothers in law ought to be brought back anyway. and as i goggle at the magnificent list, i can't help loving the way a cast is gathered for a radio production - and the way, without being seen, a name comes into the public consciousness by the power of their voice alone.)

and i like this obituary that douglas adams wrote for him.
