for a fuss-free dessert of ang ku kueh with agar agar covering such as i had made today:

mix 200g of coconut milk with 13g agar agar powder and 600g water in pot and bring to a boil. add colouring as you wish. pour into ang ku kueh moulds until half-filled, leave to congeal a little, poke holes with a satay stick, spoon in red bean paste or filling of your choice (yam paste also recommended) and pour more agar agar over. refrigerate. makes 30 pieces.
