i suppose - old friends are dreadful nuisances - they call you by names you don't half-remember and would rather current company of new friends didn't find out about. i walked into lt5 and saw louise wong and a bunch of berkeley people and immediately called out to her: "louse!" much to her mortification. to be fair i've never called louise anything but louse the old rgs nickname has lodged firmly in my cranium, just as i would always automatically call po chin poach and adeline addy. e-ching had touted the michigan-berkeley-virginia talk as the "public ivies" info-session, and neither the berkeley folks (nor us) were that pleased about it, it seems to convey the wrong sort of image, although it's the first time we didn't have to squirm and hmmhaw to say sorry no financial aid for internationals because all three schools didn't. louise was impressed when gordon and chew mee walked in. you flew faculty here for this?! and i started laughing. berkeley folks all alumni louise being the youngest and are very laid back, although i heard a girl asked (about louise) "why's her hair like that, is she a hippy?" HAHA! michigan folks are current students i met them at the fair the other day very friendly and crossed swords with gordon about relative merit of our schools. we're too straitlaced, although i think my slides this year are v nice and updated. hee. incoherence abound. ah well. haven't slept for a long time. i go.
