our 水梅 ( wrightia religiosa, or wild water plum - they are one of my very favourite flowering plants.) is in luxuriant bloom - i almost said riotously but that would be wrong for shui mei, which are refined flowers, like little lantern clusters - ours is not a bonsai but a large plant nearly as tall as i am, bought by my grandfather when he was still alive, and a double petal at that, really beautiful. and the 茉莉花 (jasminum molle) outside the gate is thick with white flowers, you can hardly pass through the gate without stopping for the heady fragrance.
