when i said "let's go for a walk, pa." i meant perhaps in punggol park, or by the serangoon park connector, but my dad and i walked from our home to sengkang* by a circuitous route (naturally, because we didn't look at any maps when we went, and didn't know the way, and were only heading in the general direction of "sengkang is somewhere over there.") lots of turns and twists, and looking in at shops and kopitiams on the way (and once, climbed up to a lrt station to check our position on the locality map.) the correct route, i later checked on the street directory, was only a modest 5km. but meandering ways probably build moral fibre, as von would say, or something.
