in between books, and restless. wanted pat barker's eye in the door but it was out at orchard and chengsan, and having given mockingbird a straight-through reading (funny how, for me, it's one of the easiest and most frequently resorted-to bedtime reads as a filler when i'm between books) i am now drifting somewhat absently from one volume of short stories to another - peter taylor, julian barnes, angela carter, (yes i finally sat down and read the bloody chamber in english.) dostoevsky, tolstoy...i used to prefer the short story to nearly every other form of literature but i no longer think this, nor have, for years. i need a good, long, intense novel i can let myself fall through like a pebble through the ocean.
