for the past two or three days i have been going to sleep just before midnight and waking up at 6.30. i expect it will always feel unnatural (i default to bed at four rise at ten) but i could get used to it.

find myself lunching more often at the plough and stars lately. had grilled scallops with lemon parsley sauce and a green salad last week, and today, roast pork loin, haricots verts, and some kind of horseradish-paprika-mustard paste. the rest of the day was spent, first aggressively photocopying in the department, and then on several wild goose chases in widener (well the titles sounded promising) and then to the loker reading room to look up the description of MS eng 920 in bond and faye and the harvard library bulletin. mediocre dinner at spice, and mediocre ice-cream from toscanini's after - earl grey and coconut. i wish they would put out some smashing things like they used to, when they were doing lychee-coconut sorbets, and cantaloupe-lime, and honeydew-mint, and many others, and occasionally even such things as are rather over-the-top. meant to go to the usual spot on top of the widener steps, but it felt very lonely without von, and already four or five people were up there on each side of the library steps. i did not think this would come to feel like home when i first got here, but it does now.
