i wish i knew more about how to do archival research. i'm now starting to look for a text to translate for my history of medicine class. "medical literature" can be interpreted quite liberally, in this case, and the three areas where i'm starting my searching are:

1. studies about the rise of early hospitals and medical institutions (something poach would know a lot about i think) - which may point me to some primary sources - in particular i would be interested in hospital statutes.

2. emblem books, in which i might find emblems that may have something to do with medicine or the human body or death or illness.

3. in literary works (short!) in which medical consultation, practice, or treatment, or surgical procedures, or recipes, or cures, or something along these lines, are described, or perhaps the central character is a physician or medical student, or some even some theory of medicine or medical belief is used as an underlying theme or as a force to push the narrative along.

i'd love if people had ideas of where i could look, and not necessarily restricted to these areas - these are just some ideas i had to start with.

the text should be pre-1700, in latin, and it would be excellent if it happened to be printed in gothic script (so that i would look like i worked very hard and know how to expand contractions. aha.)
