well, i'm quite happy to read paradise lost for cp's bookclub. whyever not? it's sizzling good poetry. once i was in a charlottesille cafe and there were two old men sitting at the next table reading aloud (in turns) from it, and it was thunderous and wonderful. that's what we should do - not a book club meeting, but do a reading of paradise lost.

(oh yes and today the shakespeare reading went on - it was marvellous fun - though the quality of readings varied - i notice the two shakespeareans of the department didn't take part - one was out of town and the other declined on aesthetic principles - but all the medievalist faculty took part. hah.)

what i meant to say was, if we had a bookclub i think we should read middle english because we were deprived under katzenbach and evans.
