summer goals (ambitious):

pedagogical (children):

1. install self as acquisitor of children's book for the jalan naung library cupboard
2. take tyrannical charge of sarah's reading education. she's already seven. if i work at it unflinchingly i should be able to get her to polish off the 19th century novelists - in the english, russian and french traditions - by the time she is in secondary school, and have a thorough grounding in middle english by the time she's in jc. i know they're both going to be scientists. sarah's probably all set to be RJ S03 from back when she was a creel of eels or sprat in a pickle jug.
3. take sarah to a ballet or to the sso. we'll start small and go to something at the victoria theatre. we can progress to the esplanade later.

personal (academic):

1. start rereading generals texts that were read before high school.
2. start reading for fields - make start on major med/ren texts and narrative/poetics texts, esp reread boiardo, ariosto and tasso.
3. finish one incomplete by october 31. (a.k.a. six week into fall semester)
4. review latin, greek, anglo-saxon, french. beginning german - go to goethe institut.

personal languages:

1. conversational malay (must find hougang cc class)
2. conversational teochew (speak more often to aunt, dad in teochew.)
3. if very, very brave, will attempt cantonese with mum's family.
4. read more 古文.

field trips

1. malacca
2. kuala lumpur
3. hanoi/ho chih minh city
4. siem reap/battambang

around the house

1. grow flowers for the front garden
2. reorganise books
3. CAUTION: on no account allow parents to inviegle me into repainting room.

that's more enough to be getting on with for the whole year, let alone three months, but we shall see what happens.
