and today's episode of brothers-in-law isn't from brothers-in-law! well i imagine it was in the tv script but not the book - i remember it quite clearly - it's from henry cecil's daughters in law! they changed two sisters to roger and sally! all the same it's very nice they've made up. roger's mother is magnificent:

roger: i came to apologise for what i called you last week.

mrs thursby: what did you call me?

roger: a monstrous regiment of women.

mrs thursby: oh darling. monstrous i may be, but a regiment, never.

roger: no no, the regiment included sally and joy.

mrs t: oh yes i remember.

roger: but why on earth did you tell sally i was with joy!

mrs t: well i did it for you, darling. you've been sitting on the fence between sally and joy for so long i thought it was time you had a little push.

roger: mother, if i choose to sit on the fence i'll sit on it, thank you. you've no right to go pushing me off!

mrs t: but quite gently, darling!

that was the last episode of the series, unfortunately, as my dad and i were bemoaning. but if we wait long enough they might do the third radio series, mightn't they? i shall write an enthusiastic letter to bbc7 and chirp about it.
