although they sound incredibly alike when they play characters of a similar type, that type being the debonair upper-crust amateur english detective with clipped accents, ian carmichael as peter irritates me quite a lot but terence alexander as the toff does not. i can't think why this is so. although i've seen both men in films and know quite well what they look like, carmichael's face keeps interfering when i'm trying to imagine his voice peter but when terence alexander plays the toff (he was past 50 when he recorded it.) i find myself slightly shocked each time i pull his face up to match the voice, as i had been with marjorie westbury.
