ordinarily, i don't like poetry readings. i do like poetry recordings, but the trouble is that many poets who write so beautifully are dreadful readers, or have disappointing voices, so that i never think it's such an exciting thing to hear a poet read his own poems, unless they're really good. i never liked - say - robert frost's reading. dylan thomas, on the otherhand, oh my, i could listen to him day and night. i am very fond of my t.s. eliot reading of prufrock though, whose voice did take a lot of getting used to, and still does, only i do really enjoy it now. i wonder if i should put aside money for a audio poetry collection, or more books. spent some time this morning downloading readings from salon.com, and was surprised that e.e. cummings had a smooth, pleasant voice. and i've just been listening to kenneth brannagh read the first chapter of the magician's nephew. i do dislike the man, but he can read alright. i should go study soon, but what i want is to take a nap. perhaps i will.
