joel grumbled "why do these things happen to you?!" when he heard; i don't know why they do, but i'm glad they do and the moral of the story is to follow the chocolate. i was with desmond in the evening; we had taken a long stroll downriver from robertson quay and were heading for max brenner's, and as we were making our way across the esplanade foyer a woman came up to us and offered us a pair of tickets to the wedding banquet - the musical. "it's for tonight, i'm giving them away." they were for pretty good seats too; the tickets were second ring and $120, so of course we took them and went. des explained later that the woman works for arts central, which had sponsored a contest earlier to give away 5 pairs of tickets. two of the winners didn't show though, so she was casting about for someone else to give the tickets to. apparently, (he did all the talking, i was on the phone and didn't know what was going on until the tickets were in hand) she'd turned to some angmoh couple behind her and wondered aloud who she should give them to, and they picked us out and said "how about those two?" totally random and very funny. of course the show was already 20 minutes underway, and we had to climb over feet apologetically. neither of us were really dressed for the theatre either. it wasn't the most brilliant thing i'd seen in a while, though it was quite entertaining if a tad trite. (though all musicals are, aren't they) i had fun, at any rate. and the whole thing still ended early enough for us to go to max brenner's for quick chocolate after all. good hunting!
