despite keeping von up last night discussing what to make for breakfast and getting critised to bits for what i keep in my fridge ("bacon? what the hell do you have bacon for?" most people soon discover i share none of the common prejudices against cooking with fat.) we woke up so late this morning that he went off to dunster to meet his brunch party instead and i ate downstairs in the buttery. (mashed potatoes, chicken cordon blu (sic), scoop of corn and a cup of green tea.) so when von went off to catch his plane i decided that i would cook what i had planned for breakfast:
- a bowl of rice,
- with japanese-style sweet rolled omelette, cut into eight small rectangles;
- a handful of golden pin mushrooms, lightly microwaved with a lump of butter;
- four pieces of fishcake with carrots pieces in;
- one baby eggplant, sliced and stirfried in soysauce;
- and for a small appetiser to start everything off, a teaspoonful of salmon roe, on top of two slices of cucumber.
and now i'm rounding off the meal with some lemon-ginger sorbet von took out this afternoon from toscanini's. you see you can have a good life in food even if you are complete imbecile in the kitchen.
