here's a gallery of pictures from the yule ball.

immediate bimbo thought: cho's modified cheungsam can be copied, and shall be copied! very lovely that, and when i get it made up i'll have the sleeves shortened and the cape/bolero/thingami sewn on (detachable is more trouble than it is worth, believe me.) that would mean having to put a zipper in at the side, probably. oh well maybe the cape portion should be detachable after all and the zip would go up the back and be hidden below. needs a much higher collar, and a different colour probably, that one looks just a little too anaemic, or else the trimmings and lace details need to be of a higher contrast. restore the traditional shape by shifting the waist line and taking the whole thing in (really, this one is cheating, getting the hour glass shape by separating top and bottom!)

fleur's dress is an absolute classic of quiet taste. very elegant, nothing schoolgirl about it (unlike hermione's horrendous lettuce of a dress.) beautiful colour, not easy to wear unless you were beautiful, very elegant, flowing lines, a light touch with details. straight out of one of the french fashion houses. know she cho's cheongsam i have said is very beautiful but could have been a more striking colour to bring out the details i think her colouring is just too pale for such a light-coloured dress?

parvati's sari strangely very plain definitely not a formal sari you see more elaborate ones on the streets everyday. such a pity the sari is such a beautiful garment you'd think the designers would make the most of it. poor parvati she got the short shrift because no other gryffindor is allowed to outshine hermione i suppose? but that dress of hermione's just doesn't cut it. tiered layers! it's a little girl's idea of a party dress - you know when they say they want to be a fairy princess? i know she's supposed to be fifteen but since the other two have more grown-up dresses she could too?she wears these very lovely dresses to film awards and premieres and so on, couldn't they have given her a dress like the ones she wears to those? she's very pretty (von is in love with her) but that dress is a mistake!

cedric is very charming and he is always looking at cho i like that attentiveness and besottedness it's very sweet but i rather think pattinson looks better as himself than in the film. oh i agree i think he is most handsome of the lot but they do make him up with such pink cheeks which are a bit much. and too pretty. and his character is against him don't you think he'll take a psc scholarship and have a hdb flat and get married at the fullerton and be described as reliable and hardworking and decent and be a rise to become the youngest perm sec of MCDS when he is 35? but krum and all the durmstrangs with their fur-trimmed blood-red cloaks and miltary bearing, much more manly even if not as handsome and also he's got a rather intense look, very much physically present, not oafish or lumpish or whatever su-lin insists. of course i haul julian into it.

( me: julian i haul you into this argument because i rely on your judgement as a gay man!
julian: heh, and why not cp?
me: because he always sides su-lin! cp likes them all pretty! jude law and orlando bloom!)

anyway julian says he isn't lumpish and oafish so there.
